David A. Lucas provides extensive estate and legacy planning, asset protection, retirement planning, and business planning services to individuals and businesses. David’s main objective is to provide his clients with a well-crafted estate plan so that they can avoid probate, protect their assets and legacies, and provide for the security of their loved ones. David takes a special interest in ensuring that the dreams parents have for their children and grandchildren are not lost to taxes, poor planning, or procrastination. In support of his interest, David offers frequent educational seminars on a variety of estate planning topics to both the general public and private groups.
David is licensed to practice law in Maryland and the District of Columbia and is admitted to practice before the respective local and Federal courts. He is a member of the Maryland State Bar Association, the District of Columbia Bar Association, and the Montgomery County Bar Association. David is also a member of the American Academy of Estate Planning Attorneys, the nation’s premier organization promoting high standards of excellence and integrity in the legal profession. The Academy limits its membership to only those attorneys of the highest moral character and requires its members to complete thirty-six (36) hours of continuing education per year in the areas of estate planning, taxation, and ethics.
Prior to establishing his current practice, David started his legal career by serving as a Law Clerk to The Honorable Judge Dennis M. McHugh of the Montgomery County Circuit Court in Rockville, Maryland. After his clerkship, David worked for a general practice firm where he gained practical experience in a variety of disciplines, including civil litigation, employment law, workers’ compensation, administrative law, family law, estate planning, and business formation.
Today, David focuses his practice exclusively on estate and legacy planning, asset protection, and business planning. He advises his clients on how to best achieve their estate planning goals, while simultaneously reducing legal fees, taxes, publicity, and other complications.
David earned a B.A. in Sociology from The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. and earned his Juris Doctorate, cum laude, from The Catholic University of America’s Columbus School of Law.
David served as a Staff Member on The Journal of Contemporary Health Law & Policy. He also received an award from the American Bar Association and the Bureau of National Affairs for his excellence in the study of labor and employment law. David gained practical experience while in law school by working for the United States Department of Justice Tax Division.
A native of New Hyde Park, NY, David has resided in the Washington, D.C. metro area since 1993. In his spare time, David enjoys spending time with his wife and their three children.
